A disabled man is angry his parking bay was removed without notice because he is able to walk more than 50 metres.
Roy Day, 53, of Gwynn Road, Northfleet, is registered disabled and has had a designated space outside his home for six years.
He struggles with mobility and cannot put on his shoes without assistance, but after a health reassessment, he is no longer deemed eligible.
The Department for Work and Pensions is tightening disability allowance and reassessing everyone who applies for Personal Independence Payment.
The payment supports long-term sufferers of ill health or disabilities, and while Mr Day still holds his blue badge, he failed his medical assessment by two points as he was able to walk more than 50-metre threshold.
He said: “On a good day I can walk about 200 yards, but on a bad day I struggle to go 15. If I have to carry shopping from my car parked 100 yards away it just won’t be possible for me to get out or do anything for myself.
“There’s no guarantee I’ll even get a parking spot in my road now.
“My neighbours have been keeping the spot free for me because they know how hard it is for me to walk, but I can’t count on local support forever.”
Local authorities make the decision to remove bays.
Mr Day had no idea this was going to happen until he saw contractors outside his house burning the paint from the road.
A spokesman for Gravesham council said: “There is no requirement to notify someone that we are removing a road marking from the highway and Mr Day tried to obstruct the contractors who carried out this work.
“Mr Day does not receive allowances which confirm his disability and so was not entitled to the bay outside the Gravesham Borough Council property he occupies.”
