Police are appealing for witnesses after a car transporter overturned on the A2 at Pepper Hill.
At least six vehicles, believed to be Hyundais, came off the lorry and were strewn across both London and coastbound carriageways.
The transporter driver, who is in his 30s and from Ramsgate, was taken to hospital in London with serious but not life threatening injuries.
Another motorist suffered minor injuries and she was released from hospital the same day.
Motorcyclist Tim Caycorr, 35, from Higham, reported seeing a car "flying though the air" as he travelled along the coastbound side. He compared the mayhem to a scene from The Matrix movie.
Fire crews, ambulance, police and the air ambulance attended just after 3pm on Tuesday last week.
Drivers immediately behind the transporter, which was on the London-bound carriageway, were forced to turn around and exit via the Pepper Hill junction.
Rush-hour queues stretched back several miles into the evening and diversions were put in place.
The road was not fully reopened until 12.40am on Wednesday and some vehicles broke down when they ran out of fuel or suffered flat batteries and needed to be recovered from the hard shoulder.
Police handed out blankets to motorists stranded in freezing conditions.
PC Paul Soesancorr, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "I’d like to thank motorists for their cooperation while we assisted the two injured people and recovered the lorry and debris caused from this incident.
"I’d urge anyone with information, including those who saw the transporter before the incident, to contact Kent Police by calling 101."
