Dog lovers turned out in force in a show of support for a five-year-old dog urgently in need of a brain scan.
The sponsored walk at Jeskyns Park Cobham was part of a campaign to help raise funds for a scan for mastiff Flo.
After successfully undergoing treatment for mammary cancer two years ago, Flo’s health worsened. She suffers from seizures and confusion, and it is hoped a brain scan will determine the exact cause of her illness.
Her owner, Melissa Hanson, who lives in Gravesend, launched an appeal to raise money for an MRI because she cannot afford the expensive vet's fees, and Saturday’s walk was organised by community campaigner Helen Cox.
Melissa said: " Flo collapsed on the floor and had a seizure and was foaming at mouth, after she was so confused and since then she is constantly confused and bumping into things, she is a shell of herself and unresponsive, it's heart breaking to see.
"We have been told by the PDSA that it could be epilepsy, but that we need her to have a brain scan which unfortunately they do not cover. The only way Flo can have a scan is if we went private."
So far, £940 has been raised but more is needed to pay for the £2,000 scan. A family fundraiser has also been arranged for Saturday, February 4, from 10am to 1pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gravesend, with tea and cakes, face painting and arts and crafts.
In addition to raising funds for Flo, her owners hope to increase support for the PDSA, the UK veterinary charity that provides free care to injured and unwell pets.
