A man attempted to snatch a young child in Northfleet on Friday evening.

Witnesses say the man was wearing a dark jacket with a blue scarf and had a gold tooth.

According to them, the man tried to kidnap the girl in Waterdales at about 5.30pm.

The girl ran off after spotting her neighbour in the street.

He was driving a white Peugeot and drove off in the direction of Springhead Road. Police have not commented on the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police advises the public and parents remain vigilant.

"Parents should ensure that their children are well-versed in the potential risks associated with talking to strangers."
