Bayonet threat PC awaits sentence

A KENT police officer who threatened two colleagues with a bayonet will learn of his fate later this month. Steven Tagg, 45, appeared before Dartford magistrates having admitted two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest and a further charge of making threats to kill.

At an earlier hearing, magistrates were told that Tagg, a collector of military memorabilia, threatened to kill his former girlfriend, Dolores Reid, during a telephone call on September 11 this year. He was arrested at his home in Kent Road, Gravesend, where he pulled out a bayonet in front of two officers.

Magistrates were due to hold a Newton Hearing to hear conflicting evidence but the defence accepted a police summary of the chain of events. Tagg will now next appear before Dartford magistrates on October 18 following the completion of pre-sentence reports.
