A 24 hour “ride to hell” for charity was made at the Tri The Bike Shop at the weekend.
Joe Tickner and Robin Henderson spent 24 hours in the saddle in front of the shop window of the bicycle store on Windmill Street in Gravesend.
Starting at noon on Friday they were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress John and Sue Caller to support the start and present their medals at the end.
Throughout the day and night there was music and a hog roast for the passersby who came to watch and cheer them on.
Robin told the Messenger: “It went OK and was probably as hard as I thought it would be. I was sore and achey and I think we were both looking at each other about 5am thinking ‘why are we doing this’. The sun was coming up and the streets were dead but it was all for a good cause.
“We had a bit of a party going on and we were really pleased with the support we had. People were still coming to see us and drop money in the bucket at 2am. They were a good crowd and it was really nice to see.”
The pair each managed to ride over 355 miles during the time and hope to have raised nearly £2,000 to help the British Heart Foundation.
Robin added: “Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the UK and my granddad recently had a triple bypass so it was a charity close to my heart and something we both wanted to support.”
Fundraiser for the BHF Jo Howe said: “We’re delighted that Joe and Robin showed great fun in doing this challenge as a local business with great support from family, friends and the public”.
