This man is being sought by police over a £10,000 raid on a jeweller's in Gravesend.

Staff at Blackwell, in the High Street, were threatened by a raider armed with what is believed to have been a knife.

Kent Police officers were called after he escaped with jewellery estimated to be worth more than £10,000 at about 2pm last Wednesday.

A spokesman said it was reported he had been into the store earlier that day and asked staff to set aside items for him to buy later.

The man then returned and threatened staff with a weapon, believed to be a knife, before fleeing. No one was injured in the incident.

The robber is described as being of heavy build with dark brown hair and stubble. He was wearing a dark woollen hat, a hoodie and tan-coloured canvas shoes.

Now detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they believe might be able to help them with their investigation and are appealing for the public's help in identifying him.

DC Natalie Collin, from Kent Police, said: "This incident left staff frightened and shocked. They had repeatedly tried to help the offender earlier in the day when he tried to buy some jewellery from them.

"We believe the man in these images has information that could assist us with our enquiries and think he spent a lot of the day in the High Street, so if you saw this man or think you know who it is, don't hesitate to give us a call."
