A school was evacuated yesterday after a bomb was discovered.
Staff and pupils at Holy Trinity School in Trinity Road, Gravesend, were told to leave the building on Tuesday afternoon.
Parents were held up outside and pupils ushered onto the school field after the unexploded Second World War device was uncovered.
Police were called at 2.49pm and it was later established the four-and-a-half inch solid shot contained explosives.
The Ministry of Defence’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched to the school that afternoon to recover and remove the spherical device.
The large shell is believed to be a shot fired from a static gun or cannon.
On social media parents said the bomb was found near the nursery but the school declined to comment.
A police spokesman said: “We were called at 2.49pm on May 17 to Holy Trinity School, Trinity Road, Gravesend, after the discovery of what is believed to be a an unexploded Second World War device.
