Boxers, it seems, are the dog of choice this year when it comes to festive advertisements.
While Buster the boxer hit the headlines jumping up and down on a trampoline for John Lewis, Teddy, a boxer from Gravesend, has his own starring role in the Christmas advert for designer label Radley.
Teddy is seven years old but is already a seasoned professional, having previously appeared in three television adverts.
He has appeared in promotions for DFS and the Dogs Trust, as well as Direct Line, and can now be seen promoting Radley’s luxury goods.
It seems he was always destined for stardom as he is not the only boxer in his family to have appeared on television. Previous generations Lizzie and Paddy also took to the small screen before him.
His owner Debbie Hawkins, 62, of Sun Lane, Gravesend, has been breeding boxers since 1973 and Teddy is the 13th generation of the family.
She said: “I’m not an official breeder but I like to work with the dogs and train them.” To make sure Teddy is at the top of his game, Debbie takes him to Leybourne Grange Agility classes in Farleigh Lane, East Farleigh, and obedience sessions at the Echo Dog Training Club at the Christ Church Hall in Echo Square, Gravesend.
She said: “It’s important. He has to be very well trained and he’s been doing obedience training since he was just 10 weeks old.
"You need to keep training them all their life, especially when they need to be so well behaved on set.”
Teddy also made his stage debut last month at the London Palladium as part of ITV’s Upfronts Gala. He recently qualified for Crufts and will be heading there in March.
The Radley Christmas advert was released in partnership with the Dogs Trust.
Teddy will also be pictured on the new Radley limited edition shopper bag, designed especially to support the Dogs Trust’s work for those in care.
