A bus driver was taken to hospital after his window was smashed by a group of thugs reportedly riding a horse.

The vandals struck when the bus was travelling up St Hilda's Way in Gravesend just after 10pm last night.

The attack caused the driver to have shards of glass sprayed into his eyes.

He received treatment from paramedics at the scene and was then taken to Darent Valley Hospital for his injuries. They were not believed to be were serious.

Reports on Facebook suggested that three men riding on a horse with a trap were involved in the incident.

No arrests have been made by inquiries are on going.

Richard Lewis from Arriva, said “I can confirm that an assault took place against one of our buses on Service 499 in St. Hilda’s Way at around 10.30pm on Thursday evening.

"As a result our driver sustained injuries to his nose and has glass fragments in his eye.

“We view such dangerous anti-social behaviour very seriously and we are making available recordings from the digital CCTV cameras fitted to the inside and outside of the bus concerned to Kent Police, in order that those responsible can be identified and prosecuted.

“Such incidents are, fortunately, extremely rare, but we expect our drivers to be able to go about their business without being subjected to abuse of any sort.”
