Gravesend student Tamera Foster has defeated Kingsland Road in last night's X Factor to remain in the competition.

The 16-year-old, who attends North West Kent College, was in the bottom two with the boyband - which stars former Maidstone Grammar School pupil Josh Zare.

Judge Gary Barlow was left complaining the British public "got it wrong" in voting Kingsland Road off the show after a sing-off with Tamera.

The teary-eyed five said they will carry on performing together.

Bookmakers' favourite Tamera, who is one of the favourites to win the show, won the vote after singing her heart out to I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

Tamera's victory ended a busy week for the teenager and her mother Rachael Foster, who has been coordinating a poster campaign.

Bookmakers have backed Tamera to win the show and now Rachael hopes she can rely on the encouragement of her home town.

Miss Foster, who celebrated her 33rd birthday in The X Factor studio, started a poster campaign to get everyone behind her talented daughter.

She had been making posters herself for people to put up but with demand rising it was beginning to prove expensive.

Miss Foster said: "I just wanted a bit more support for Tamera. I wanted the town to get behind her and I thought people could put them up in their houses and businesses.

"I've had people stopping my mum's car saying 'where did you get that picture? I want one'."

Posters have been springing up all over Gravesend, with offices and shops pledging their support for Tamera’s quest for glory.

Miss Foster has been thrilled with the way people have responded to her daughter's success on the ITV singing competition and has called the support in the town "brilliant".
