Victim: Gian Chand Bajar

The jury in the case of a man accused of murdering a taxi driver by running over him with his own cab was due back in court this week after failing to reach a verdict after two days.

The panel of seven men and five women were sent away on Friday and, because of the bank holiday, will not return to Maidstone Crown Court to resume deliberations until tomorrow.

Luke Aujila, 21, denies murdering 71-year-old Gian Chand Bajar. He admits manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.

After attacking Mr Bajar, he ran over him as he lay injured in St Benedict's Avenue, Gravesend, on May 23 last year. He then set fire to the taxi. The victim died later in hospital.

Aujila's mother Annette, 42, of Dorchester Road, Gravesend, and brother Thomas, 25, of Gordon Road, Northfleet, have admitted perverting the course of justice and will be sentenced on Friday.
