Christmas could come early for a teenager battling a muscle-wasting condition.
Cameron Edmonds suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy and is in need of a new wheelchair.
Cameron, 13, uses an NHS power chair but he is still restricted in his movements and needs a wheelchair costing £20,000 which will give him a better quality of life.
To help with fundraising efforts, family friend Louise Robey has organised a Christmas fair, with all proceeds going towards Cameron at Istead Rise community centre on Saturday, December 14.
Louise, 35, who lives in Northfleet, said:"People can sell anything, from second-hand clothes to toys and crafts. I have managed to get the hall at a massively reduced rate so once my costs are covered, all the money will go to Cameron.
"I met him about a year ago and he is so adorable. His current wheelchair doesn’t do anything other than get him around. The new one moves up and down.
At the moment he can’t even get down to floor level. The wheelchair is a ridiculous amount of money but I’m just doing as much as I can to help.”
Cameron, who lives in Riverview Park, is unable to walk or bear weight after breaking his leg as a result of osteoporosis. His arms are also becoming weaker and eventually he will be unable to feed himself.
His condition also means he is likely to be totally dependent on his parents, Lisa and Rob, by the time he is 18, and not live much past his 21st birthday.
Lisa said the new wheelchair, known as the Dragon, will give Cameron the chance to do more of his favourite activities.
She said: “His NHS one does not fit under tables. The one we are looking at lowers right down, so Cameron will be able to sit on the floor and either build his Lego or play with our cat Jess.
“It would give Cam a whole new world of independence and make him feel more ‘normal’ in the respect he can join in a lot more.”
The fair starts at 9am, with sellers able to set up from 8am and runs until noon. Pitches are priced at £12, while admission will be 50p for adults.
