A car was left on its roof in the outside lane of the A2 near Gravesend following a rush-hour crash.

London-bound traffic had stretched back to the M2 because of the blockage near the Gravesend east turn-off, for Wrotham Road, just after the Esso garage.

Police, who were called to the crash at about 8.20am, closed the road while firefighters helped the driver of the Land Rover Discovery.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution but only sustained minor injuries.

Police reopened the carriageway at about 9.35am.
