A former BT storage depot could soon be given a new lease of life as part of plans to deliver “much needed” affordable housing.

Gravesham council has announced new plans for independent living accommodation for older people, as well as a small number of homes for private sale on the site.

The site map consists of an existing council operated car park, small skate park, and an open space, which was formerly the site of the Gravesend Lido.

However, it understood a large amount of parking from the car park will remain and the development proposals for affordable homes largely centre around the former BT depot.

It has been earmarked by Gravesham council as having the potential to meet the need for new homes and to help meet specialist housing targets.

Gravesham council says investment in developing the Milton Place site is significant in the ongoing regeneration of the town centre, including the important delivery of “much needed” affordable housing.

Working with partners, The Hill Group, the local authority aims to reduce its housing register, which is currently more than 1,000 households, providing new homes for local people.

It is inviting residents to share their views and help shape the proposals at an upcoming public consultation event.

It will take place at the Kent Room at The Woodville auditorium on Wednesday, October 2 where people can pop in anytime between 3pm and 7.30pm. For more information click here.

If you’re unable to attend the council says it will be publishing information shared at these events on its website the same day, as well as a survey so that you can share your ideas and feedback there instead.
