Plans for an illegal caravan site at a pretty Gravesham location have been blocked by the High Court.

It granted Gravesham council an injunction to stop caravans going onto the land at Valley Road, Culverstone.

The injunction is against Charlene Eastwood, Marney Eastwood and persons unknown.

The council took action when hardcore was delivered to the site just after electricity and water supplies were linked to the site over a week ago.

A council spokesman said: "Enforcement officers strongly suspected the site owners were getting set to create a site for the stationing of mobile homes for residential purposes on Green Belt land in breach of planning control.

"The council sought an emergency injunction to stop any potential breach of planning regulations."

The order bans any caravans or mobile homes going on the site, as well as barring any material that could be used for hardcore.

The injunction was granted by Mr Justice Supperstone. A breach of his order would be contempt of court. It follows the creation of another travellers' site in nearby White Post Lane, Sole Street (above).

Council leader Cllr John Burden said: "This council is determined to uphold the law and prevent illegal caravan sites. This shows we are serious in taking these matters to the High Court quickly and in time to stop unlawful development."
