Two cats have been given oxygen after being rescued from a kitchen blaze.
Firefighters were called to Cerne Road in Gravesend at about 4pm yesterday.
Two fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put the flames out.
A high-pressure fan was used to clear the home of smoke.
Two cats were rescued from the property and firefighters provided both with oxygen therapy via specialist pet oxygen masks.
There were no other reported injuries.
The fire is believed to have started accidentally and has been linked to a microwaveable heat pad that had been put in the kitchen bin before being fully cooled. It had been put out by 5pm.
Following the incident, the fire service is asking people to ensure anything that has been hot or warmed up is fully cooled down before being disposed of.
