Kent comedian Joe Pasquale says he is lucky to be alive after almost being impaled on stage by a moose head prop.
The Higham resident was injured when he tripped and almost landed on some moose antlers on stage in Skegness during his latest touring show The New Normal – 40 Years of Cack!
Speaking on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, Joe, who needed seven stitches after the incident, said: “I nearly died, I really did. I was that close!"
“It only got me in the back of the leg.”
The freak escape comes as no surprise to fans who saw him on stage during his performance in Kent last year when he starred as accident-prone Frank Spencer in a touring production of hit BBC TV show Some Mothers Do Ave ‘Em at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford.
With the set crumpling around him, Joe wowed audiences as the character first played by veteran stage star Michael Crawford back in the 1970s.
Aside from the odd mishap, real or acted, Joe, 61, has happily returned to his stage roots in recent years after successful stints on television, including hosting a remake of iconic game show The Price is Right, a role in the BBC’s Doctors and winning the fourth series of I’m a Celebrity...Get Me out of Here!
In 2016 he went back to his stand-up roots with the 23-date One Man and his Bog tour which included a date at the Theatre Royal in Margate.
During the show the former King of the Jungle and star of Spamalot addressed such important issues such as "why is an orange called an orange when a carrot is more orange than an orange?"
The star of stage and screen loves working in his home county and two years ago he swapped the bright lights of the stage for a visit to residents at Sherwood House Care in Maidstone Road, Rochester, and in 2009 he launched a charity walk in aid of Smiley Steps Centre in Cliffe Woods.
In 2018 the former Dancing on Ice star made an appearance in Ramsgate filming for the BBC's Celebrity Antiques Road Trip going head-to-head with showbiz pal Peter Andre to find antique bargains and sell them at auction.
The pair also visited Faversham, Whitstable, Canterbury and Sittingbourne in the episode.
In 2013 he referred to his Kentish roots when he spoke out against plans for a new Thames crossing.
He said: “I don't have a preference as to what crossing, just as long as it doesn’t go through my house."
His new show, which started last month (July 28) will be coming to The Orchard in Dartford on August 22, before finishing at The Marlowe in Canterbury on October 1.
