THE family of a community warden killed in a road crash while on duty have paid tribute to their “gentle giant”.

Father-of-four Chris Homden, 34, was a passenger in a Gravesham Borough Council vehicle which is believed to have hit a wall after the driver swerved to miss a fox.

The crash happened at the junction of Valley Drive, Gravesend, and Old Road East shortly before his shift was due to finish.

Mr Homden's 35-year-old partner Teresa Donoghue said her 6ft 6in boyfriend, who worked in the Christianfields and Wallis Park areas, was a true family man who loved nothing more than his four children Savanah, 11, Ryan, 10, Shantelle, nine and three-year-old Leah.

Teresa, of Haldane Gardens, Northfleet, said darts-mad Mr Homden, who was a regular player at The Pelham Arms pub, seemed to know someone everywhere he went.

Cllr Ernie Brook, who initiated the community warden scheme, was full of praise for the good work Mr Homden had been doing and he added: "He was such a gentleman."
