A Gravesend business man has been prosecuted by Kent County Council for fraud and illegally dumping commercial waste in a household waste recycling centre.

Jasbir Biring, 48, of Singlewell Road, Gravesend, admitted six offences of fraud and two of illegal waste dumping at Medway Magistrates Court.

He tried to leave the waste at Pepperhill Household Waste Recycling Centre.

He was sentenced to a 12 month community order with 80 hours unpaid work, and was ordered to pay costs of £2,140.

A council spokesman said: "Biring was responsible for a property and land in High Street, Halling.

"He cleared the land prior to construction taking place. This was a commercial enterprise where the waste should have been taken to a commercial outlet.

"In April 2012, Mr Biring made several deposits of waste at Pepperhill at no cost to himself but at considerable cost to the taxpayer."

Biring signed six Declaration of Non Commercial Waste and Non-Industrial Waste Forms, indicating that the waste was from his private residence and not from a business or commercial operation.

KCC environment boss Cllr David Brazier said:“We believe that it is right to bring these offences to the attention of the courts in the interests of council taxpayers.

"We are very pleased with the conviction result and hope that it will send a clear message to any person who is considering making a financial gain at the cost of the public purse."
