A council's deputy leader has been charged with assault after an incident at a disability awareness event.
Cllr John Knight, the deputy leader of Gravesham Borough Council, was arrested on Friday morning.
It followed an event organised by Gravesham Access Group for Disability Awareness Day.
The 64-year-old, of Downs Road, Istead Rise, who is a member of the council's Conservative group, was allegedly involved in an incident in Parrock Street car park.
Kent Police spokesman Nicola Forman confirmed Cllr Knight has been bailed to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court on June 19.
A council spokesman said: “We cannot comment on Kent Police investigations.”
Cllr Knight, who continues in his roles as deputy and Istead Rise ward councillor, declined to comment.
He took over from Cllr Leslie Hills (Con) who stepped down in November amid mounting tensions over proposals to build on green belt land.
