About 15 caravans and associated vehicles pitched up on the site after being evicted from St Gregory's Crescent, Gravesend, that day.

They had previously been moved on from Wombwell Park, Northfleet.

Senior environmental technician Keith Moorhouse, from Gravesham Borough Council, applied to Medway Magistrates' Court to get the group removed from the site behind Sandown Road today.

He told the court the group arrived on the field on Monday night and officers from the local authority visited the group the following day and found no justification for the encampment.

The group was directed to go, and notice was given to the group to leave by 1pm that day.

However, officers visited during the afternoon of Tuesday and found they were still there and had not moved or had any vehicles ready to leave the site.

At that point the travellers were issued with a summons for the case to be heard in court today.

During the hearing – which was held just after 2pm – magistrates agreed to the eviction and granted the eviction order.
