Designs for a key part of Gravesend's Cyclopark have been unveiled.
Set to open in March 2012, Cyclopark, which is south of Gravesend near the A2 will provide track and off-road bike riding for amateur and professional cyclists.
This week the contract to build a glass-fronted pavilion was awarded to London-based contractors Bryen and Langley, who beat off competition from five other firms.
It should take around 10 months to build the pavilion, designed by Canterbury architects, Clague, which will house training areas, changing rooms, a cafe, an area for community use and bike and equipment hire.
Cyclopark's track will be 2.9km long and set in park land.
Kent County Council deputy cabinet member for environment, highways and waste, David Brazier, who is also the council's cycling champion, said: "The pavilion is central to the wider design of the park and will bring together cyclists and sports men and women, whatever their activity or ability."
When complete, Cyclopark expects to attract 100,000 cyclists a year and £8million of lottery money has been spent on the new park.
Sport England's chairman, Richard Lewis, said: "In our drive to deliver a mass participation legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we're transforming the places where people play sport, helping to create sustainable sporting opportunities that meet the needs of local communities.
"With National Lottery investment, Cyclopark is set to become a local beacon for grass roots sport, providing the chance for people of all ages and abilities to take on a range of sports for years to come."
