POLICE are warning that thousands of pounds worth of fireworks stolen from an address in a Kent town could cause "serious harm".

A container holding around 2,000 'category four' fireworks was taken from a property at Gravesend. They are worth around £10,000.

Police say 'category four' fireworks are for professional use only and are not sold to the general public.

They have special ignition devices and should onyl be handled by trained people with a clear space of 50m or more.

The fireworks, which are three to four inches in diameter, are all marked with yellow labels reading "display firework", "for display use only" and "Vulcan".

Ch Insp Mark Harrison of Kent Police's Partnership and Crime Reduction department said: "In the wrong hands these fireworks are dangerous and will cause serious harm."
