Awards for detectives who investigated brutal stabbing at bus stop in Milton Road, Gravesend

Detectives who investigated the brutal daylight stabbing of a man at a bus stop in Gravesend have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

The team of five officers gathered a strong case of evidence which led to the arrests and convictions of teenagers Brandon Gurr and Mojolaoluwa Oluleye.

Former Northfleet Technology College pupil Gurr, of no fixed address, was convicted of attempted murder and perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced to a total of 15 years youth custody.

Oluleye, of Meadow Road, Gravesend, was cleared of attempted murder but convicted of wounding with intent. He was locked up for eight years.

The Gravesham Community Policing Team also received the same award for their outstanding contribution to the community.

The team, made up of police constables and police community support officers, work closely with representatives from partner agencies, such as the council, to share information on crimes and anti-social behaviour to provide an effective multi-agency response to incidents.

This year their work included the arrest of a man who was subsequently jailed for 12 years for three offences of rape, one of sexual assault and one of robbery.

Because of overwhelming evidence against him, the man pleaded guilty and neither victim had to relive their horrific ordeals in court.

‘Some of the stories were truly inspirational and this is why we hold an awards ceremony each year - to recognise the commitment and bravery of so many people who provide support to those in need of help."
