Housing developer Bellway has been granted detailed planning permission for the second stage of development at a former cement works.
Construction is already well under way on the first phase of 121 homes at Harbour Village in Northfleet, near Gravesend, and now Bellway has secured permission for another 130 homes.
The riverside regeneration project on the banks of the River Thames is on the site of the former Northfleet Cement Works, which closed in 2008.
Harbour Village will eventually comprise 532 homes in total and will form part of the wider Ebbsfleet Garden City.
The Phase 2 new homes will range from two-bedroom to four-bedroom, with 40 of them being affordable for low-cost rent or shared ownership.
The buildings will seek to retain the character of the old works by extensive use of flint as a building material.
Bellway’s London MD Tom Sherriff said: “Harbour Village is already transforming this disused site in Northfleet into an attractive and welcoming new community.
“We welcome the decision to grant planning consent for the second phase of the development.
“We have worked closely throughout the planning process with Ebbsfleet Development Corporation to design an inclusive and sustainable development. It includes ecological enhancements, sustainable drainage, new parkland, a heritage park, sports facilities and electric vehicle charging points.
“Harbour Village will deliver benefits to the whole community while making a large section of the riverside accessible to local residents.”
