A donation tin collecting money for The Stacey Mowle Appeal has been found smashed open and its contents gone.
The shocking discovery was made by a dog walker in a field off St Gregory’s Crescent, Gravesend, who then contacted the appeal.
She also found a second charity tin but the location label had been removed.
The Stacey Mowle Appeal posted the information on Facebook on Friday. By Saturday, 38 comments had been posted, all reacting in anger.
Many also shared the original post in a bid to find the culprits.
Gravesham ‘Confidence Queen’ Genny Jones said: “Oh my goodness how can people stoop so low! Shocking!”, while Jade Fuller added: “What is wrong with people. Disgusting I say.”
Sonia Dalton branded those responsible as “low-life scum” and Tracy Ann Murton-Stevens posted: “People get lower and lower. Robbing from any charity is wrong but from a child is disgusting.”
Stacey’s grandmother Lyn Mowle voiced the family’s upset. “Disgusting - stealing from my grand-daughter’s appeal. Hope they never have to walk in our shoes.”
The general feeling was perhaps best summed up by Toni-Marie Titshall, who wrote: “Some people are so low. How can anybody do that? That’s a collection for a beautiful young girl from our home town all getting together to save her life. Hope whoever did this can see all the comments. Hopefully will have the guts to hand it in.”
It is not known where the tin has originally come from.
Seven-year-old Stacey, of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, has relapsed neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer, and her family are trying to raise £500,000 to send her to the United States for treatment which is not available in the UK.
