Fire and police investigators are still at the scene of a fire which tore through a home and killed two dogs.
The blaze broke out in Rochester Road, Gravesend, last night and four fire engines were sent to the scene.
A man at the property was handed over to the ambulance service and taken to a nearby hospital, while a female neighbour was given oxygen.
The area outside the house, which is next to the petrol station, has been cordoned off and police forensic officers as well as fire investigators are still at the scene.
The fire, which is thought to have started in the back garden area, started shortly before 10.30pm last night.
The two animals, one a puppy, were given oxygen at the scene but did not survive.
This afternoon windows at the property were open and a door which had been removed from the house was in the front garden.
Spokesman for police, James Walker, said: "We were called to a report that a garden was alight at 10.24pm last night.
"Officers attended the scene and supported Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS).
"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing."
Spokesman for the fire service, Sandra Michael added: "KFRS fire investigation team are currently at the property, working with police to investigate the fire.”
At the moment the cause of the fire is being treated unexplained.
