They say an army marches on its stomach, and the jabs army at one mass vaccination centre is being kept well fuelled.
The Covid-19 vaccine centre at The Woodville, Gravesend, has been open for a month, and staff and volunteers have vaccinated thousands of people.
As a way of thanking them for their hard work, local businesses have been donating care packages to get them through their shifts.
Dover Road Fish & Chips donated sausage and chips; Saucy Dough and Domino's both donated pizzas; Morrisons gave a selection sandwiches and sausage rolls; Krispy Kreme Bluewater sent doughnuts; Favorite Chicken supplied chicken and chips and Anisa Curry House in Higham, donated vegetable curry.
The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara is also delivering curries regularly and The Salvation Army is keeping the drinks fridges full along with biscuits, crisps, tea and coffee.
Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, Gravesham council’s cabinet member for community and leisure, said: “The staff and volunteers at The Woodville vaccination centre are doing a fantastic job. We are so grateful and it showcases the wonderful partnership work between Gravesham Borough Council, The Woodville, the NHS and the community.
“It’s of no surprise to me that local businesses are supporting them as the ‘one community’ attitude and willingness to help each other in Gravesham is always amazing.
"I would like to personally thank everyone who has donated so far. The gestures just prove how thankful everyone is and have been gladly received.
“If you are eligible for the vaccine and have not had it yet, I would urge you to book your appointment. It takes a few minutes, is virtually pain free and will help to save lives.”
Staff have been busier still as the number of people turning up for appointments caused queues earlier this week.
