The Ring Doorbell footage, which was sent to the RSPCA by a member of the public, appears to show four teenagers carrying out the attack, with one filming on their phone.

The view of the incident is partially blocked by a wall which surrounds the property.

However, the caller said he discovered blood splattered on a white van parked by the wall the following day.

The body of the hedgehog was not recovered.

According to the charity, there is also footage showing the group taking photos of the hedgehog in the front garden before the attack.

RSPCA Inspector Kirsten Ormerod said: “The caller was very upset as the hoglet was living in their garden and they would feed the animal every day.

“They have not seen the young hedgehog since and while there has been no body found and while the impact of the blows meted out are not in view, it appears these four teenagers captured on this footage are setting about a defenceless animal.

“We are appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident and who may know who these teenagers are – they are likely to live nearby – or anyone who has any CCTV footage of the incident to contact us.”

The incident has been reported to police, who have been approached for comment.

Anyone with any information is asked to ring the RSPCA appeals line number on 0300 123 8018 quoting incident number 01342502.
