A weed smoker who was pulled over because police could smell cannabis was found to be over the drug-drive limit after smoking spliffs the night before.
Jaden Buss was driving his Ford Focus in Rochester Road, Gravesend, and as he pulled into a petrol station in the road he was stopped by officers.
The 21-year-old was asked to do a saliva test which proved positive for cannabis and he was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving.
Further blood tests at the police station revealed he had 4.2 microgrammes of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood in his system. The legal limit is 2.
Buss, of Farley Road, Gravesend, was charged with drug-driving and admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Medway on Wednesday, March 29.
James Nichols, prosecuting, told the court Buss was pulled over on August 26, last year.
Mr Nichols said: "Officers said there was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.
"The saliva test was positive and he was arrested and his blood was taken.
"He's got no convictions and is of previous good character."
Defending himself, Buss, a forklift truck driver, said: "I was not under the influence. I smoked it the previous night at about 10.30pm and I woke up the next day to go to work and went to grab some lunch and they pulled me over in the petrol garage."
Magistrates banned Buss from driving for 12 months and fined him £440 and ordered he pay a victim surcharge of £176 and £85 costs.
