A man has been arrested for human trafficking after only being stopped for not wearing his seatbelt.
His was one of eight traffic offences reported as police did routine stops in Harmer Street, Gravesend on Monday to identify vehicles used in crime and motorists committing offences.
When stopped he was found to have an outstanding European arrest warrant for domestic abuse and human trafficking.
He has since been transferred into the care of another police force.
Another driver seen without his seatbelt was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He has been bailed until April 21 while awaiting further inquiries.
Officers also arrested a man on suspicion of drug offences after he came to their attention.
Luis Batusha, 21, of Edwin Street, Gravesend, has been charged with possession of class A drugs. He was bailed and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on February 22.
One driver ignored a ‘no entry’ sign and two more drove through red lights.
A total of 87 vehicles were stopped in the operation.
Insp Jamie Little, of north Kent Local Policing Team said: "Pre-planned operations such as these are important to reassure residents that we not only reactively respond to incidents, but that we are proactively patrolling and are visible across the district as well.
"We are only interested in drivers who are knowingly breaking the law.
Gravesham Council’s environmental health team also joined officers where they spoke to 17 waste carrying vehicles and reported one for offences.
