A man has admitted killing an elderly woman while under the influence of cannabis.
Damian Demczuk knocked down 88-year-old Sifa Rifat with his car as she crossed the road outside her sheltered home in May.
The 27-year-old was warned by judge Philip Statman to expect a custodial sentence after admitting driving without due care and while unfit through drugs and causing death while driving an uninsured vehicle at Maidstone Crown Court today.
Demczuk, of Quarry Hill in Grays, Essex, was driving a blue Audi A6 when the collision happened outside Cleveland House, in London Road, Northfleet.
The court heard he had a "minimal" amount of cannabis in his system at the time of the incident.
A petition by Mrs Rifat’s former carer Pakize Guvenc for more safety measures on the notoriously dangerous London Road has almost 1,000 signatures and is due to go before Gravesham council before Christmas.
