Ebbsfleet kept their Blue Square Premier survival hopes alive with a 2-0 home win against fellow strugglers Gateshead.

The home side took the lead as early as 73 seconds through Magno Vieira. Moses Ashikodi's ball across the face of goal was met by Vieira who finished off with ease to give Liam Daish's side a welcome early lead.

But, the points were not made safe until the closing moments, when Alex Stavrinou emerged to double Fleet's advantage on 89 minutes.

Vieira broke through the Gateshead defence with a three-on-one advantage. Ricky Shakes then kept his cool to slide the ball across to Stavrinou, who tapped home.

The result still leaves Ebbsfleet second from bottom and inside the relegation zone. Just above them are Gateshead, who have a game in hand, but Fleet are two points adrift of Eastbourne Borough, who sit just above the drop zone.

The 2008 FA Trophy winners still need to win their final fixture at Tamworth next Saturday to have any chance of staying in the division.
