Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish says on-loan Gillingham striker Luis Cumbers can be real asset

Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish is delighted to have finally landed striker Luis Cumbers – two months after initially trying to bring in the Gillingham frontman.

Cumbers rejoinined Fleet on a month’s loan on Friday after starting three games, scoring one goal, while on loan at Stonebridge Road last season.

He made an immediate impact, scoring on his second debut for the club in the 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon –a team he helped to the Ryman League title while on loan from Gillingham in 2008.

Daish (pictured), who takes his side to Kettering on Saturday before hosting Salisbury on Tuesday, revealed he had spoken to Mark Stimson in the summer about signing the striker, who turned 21 earlier this month.

Daish said: "I spoke to Mark Stimson at the start of the season and at the time he said he wanted to keep his options open.

"I spoke to him again last week and we agreed for Luis to come here and play some first team football and see how he goes."

He said of the former Maidstone and Grays loanee: "This is a big year for him, I have definitely seen a difference in him from when he was with us in his first spell.

"He seems to be more single-minded about what it is that he wants to do."

"His first loan period here was a bit stop-start, but if we can keep him fit – and that is important with Luis – then he is a real asset. I am looking forward to seeing how he does for us."
