Despair for Fleet as they concede a second at home Picture: Andy Payton
Relegation fears were heightened for Ebbsfleet on Saturday following a home defeat to Forest Green Rovers.
A 2-0 defeat leaves them sitting 11 points adrift of safety in the Blue Square Bet Premier with eight games to play.
Play-off chasers Rovers went ahead through James Norwood’s 38th minutes strike and when Reece Connolly struck a second with eight minutes left there was no way back for Liam Daish’s side.
Norwood had twice had efforts at goal saved by home keeper Preston Edwards before he slotted the ball home after being out through on goal.
Edwards had to make smart saves to deny Kieron Forbes and Wes Burns before the break and the keeper needed to be on guard in the second half as well, turning over Norwood’s powerful shot on the hour.
A crucial second goal arrived following a mistake by Fleet captain Paul Lorraine. Connolly pounced on his back-pass and rounded the keeper before scoring.
Edwards saved another effort late on, to deny substitute Omer Koroma from adding a third.
