Ebbsfleet climbed off the bottom of Blue Square Bet Premier on Tuesday night when Josh Scott’s goal sunk Hereford at Stonebridge Road.
The Dagenham loanee (pictured) beat Bulls stopper James Bittner with a cool finish on 37 minutes and the Fleet were excellent value for the three points.
Craig Stone’s right-wing crosses caused the visiting defence problems throughout the first-half and Liam Enver-Marum sent a header just over the bar.
At the other end, Josh O’Keefe almost put Hereford ahead against the run of play when his shot hit the base of the post and rebounded to safety. Enver-Marum had a goal disallowed for offside before Scott did put the home side in front.
Hereford showed more fight in the second period and when Neil Barrett’s errant backpass gave Marley Watkins a free run on goal, keeper Preston Edwards had to make a crucial save.
The visitors bombarded the Fleet box with long balls late on but the home defence dealt with everything Hereford could throw at them.
On a night when fellow strugglers Barrow and Nuneaton Town also won, Ebbsfleet’s victory was hugely significant and it lifted them above AFC Telford United.
