Scott Ginty’s late strike ensured Ebbsfleet United began the new year as they finished the last with three points.

Fleet were set for a draw against Lewes at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, but Ginty’s goal, two minutes from time, secured their fifth win in six league games and sent them third in Blue Square Bet South, within four points of the leaders with a game in hand.

Ginty pounced to convert a low cross by Michael West, pictured, to send the majority of the near 1,200 fans wild.

The East Sussex visitors had looked set to escape with a point after a fine defensive performance, with Gareth Williams and Calum Willock unable to take chances to break the deadlock.
