Michael West grabbed a superb late brace to rescue an unlikely point for Ebbsfleet against Luton Town at Stonebridge Road in Blue Square Bet Premier on Tuesday evening.
Amari Morgan-Smith went close to an opener for the visitors, while a weak punch from Fleet keeper Preston Edwards almost went into his own net.
Former youth team player Jamie Darvill was handed a debut by Liam Daish and drew a good save from Hatters stopper Mark Tyler while Edwards superbly denied Aaron O'Connor at the other end.
Fleet grew in stature through the first half but it was the visitors who went ahead a minute before half-time when Jan Kovacs' long-ball found Morgan-Smith who beat Craig Stone before curling past Edwards and into the corner.
Paul Lorraine almost found an immediate equaliser, firing a shot at Tyler then heading the rebound narrowly over, but after the break the visitors looked increasingly comfortable and James Dance made it 2-0 with just under 20 minutes remaining, firing under Edwards after getting on the end of a long throw.
Instead of heads dropping, Fleet rallied and Yado Mambo - fresh from extending his loan deal from Charlton - headed a West (pictured) corner off target on 77 minutes, only for West to latch onto the loose ball and drill a low shot from an acute angle past Tyler.
Moments later substitute Scott Ginty fired straight at Tyler and as Fleet continued to fight for a leveller, West pounced in the third of four minutes stoppage-time, latching onto a low pass and cutting inside his marker before unleashing a stunning drive which flew in off the woodwork.
The draw kept Fleet fourth-bottom, but is sure to give them confidence ahead of Saturday's trip to AFC Telford.
