Ebbsfleet emerged with just a point to show for their efforts at the end of a pulsating Blue Square Bet Premier clash with Kidderminster on Tuesday night.
Dave Hankin’s deflected shot put the Harriers in front on five minutes but the game turned on a hugely controversial incident shortly after half-time.
The Fleet were awarded a penalty for handball when Joe Howe’s shot was blocked by Michael Briscoe, although the shot appeared to strike him in the face. The defender was taken to hospital with a head injury and Calum Willock, after a long delay, scored from the spot.
Liam Daish (pictured), the Fleet manager, said: "From where I was, I could see the arm was across and high. I appealed for it from where I was, his hand was high and Joe was going in on goal on his left foot. That’s how I interpreted it. That ball was stopped going towards the target by a hand or an arm."
Buoyed by the equaliser, Ebbsfleet took the lead when Willock arrowed a lob over Tony Breeden and Nathaniel Pinney then made it 3-1 from close-range.
However, Kidderminster fought back and they salvaged a late point thanks to goals from Nick Wright and Jamille Matt, who was a handful for the home defence all night.
"I thought our second-half performance was terrific," Daish said. "We’ve asked questions, we’ve kept going, we’ve gone a goal down, we’ve worked very hard and we’ve got a point out of it.
"Yes, we were 3-1 up and I suppose everyone will focus on that but we did terrific in the second-half.
"We started awful but we dug ourselves out of it. They’re a good side and you could see that. I’m disappointed but I’m not going to concentrate on that, I’m going to concentrate on the positives. Sometimes games like that are a little bit of a lottery, you can’t predict them."
