Michael West's maiden hat-trick in senior football capped an excellent night for Ebbsfleet who cruised into the first round proper of the FA Trophy against Blue Square Bet South leaders Bromley at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday.
Liam Daish wanted no hangovers after his side’s FA Cup exit against AFC Wimbledon last week and didn’t get any. Fleet, without suspended Ashley Carew against his old club, comfortably earned a home tie against Blue Square Premier strugglers Hayes & Yeading next month.
Teenager West (pictured) put them in front after 24 minutes, added a spectacular second 12 minutes later and completed his treble with a far post header with 20 minutes left, before being replaced by Ricky Shakes 10 minutes from time.
West’s drive bounced off the post after 18 minutes and the woodwork played a big part in his opener. Gareth Williams, desperate to score against his old club on a night of several reunions, saw his effort clip the inside of the same post, and fall to West who fired the ball in off the underside of the bar.
Williams also made the second, his quickly taken free-kick falling nicely for West to chip over ex-Fleet goalkeeper Craig Holloway who had a disappointing night along with Bromley skipper John Scarborough, facing his home town club.
Holloway denied Williams in the second half but West got Fleet’s third a minute later. Derek Duncan’s cross fell perfectly for the youngster to take his tally for the season to 12.
Shakes and Joe Howe both has efforts blocked by Holloway, before Tom Phipp and Shakes set up Calum Willock to score the fourth with four minutes left.
