Ricky Shakes flew out to join his Guyana team-mates this week leaving Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish unimpressed by the way the international call-up was handled.

The Fleet boss received an email last Tuesday about Shakes’ inclusion in the squad for two World Cup qualifiers, against Barbados and Bermuda next week.

The player (pictured) was requested to join the squad last Saturday, making him unavailable for Fleet’s match at Wrexham.

Shakes, who will miss home games against Conference leaders Gateshead (Saturday) and Luton (Tuesday), managed to delay his departure until 24 hours later but Daish believes Ebbsfleet should have been given more notice. He said: "We heard late last Tuesday about him being named in the squad and requesting him to join up three days later.

"I don’t believe it was a late call-up but we were given no notice about it and that is a bit amateurish.

"Then I had Ricky knocking on my door expressing his wish to go and play. It left us little time to plan and means we will be without an experienced player for nearly a fortnight."
