Ebbsfleet face a win or bust final day showdown at Tamworth in Blue Square Premier on Saturday.
The Fleet head for Staffordshire knowing they must win to have a chance of extending their eight-year tenure in the top flight of non-league football.
Fleet’s future depends on them winning and fellow-strugglers Gateshead and Eastbourne both losing their last games at home to AFC Wimbledon and Oxford United respectively
Two years ago, the Fleet were on a high preparing to face Torquay in the FA Trophy at Wembley.
But this Saturday’s 90 minutes at The Lamb probably ranks as far more crucial than even that memorable showpiece occasion in terms of the club’s whole future.
Boss Liam Daish admitted: "I always thought it would go to the last day and I think we have earned the chance after all that’s gone on in a difficult season.
"Things still grate with me, including the Chester situation, having the three points we won there taken away and losing the (chance to play the) home game (against Chester) as well."
Regardless of the Fleet’s fate at the weekend, they have another summer of uncertainty ahead with MyFootballClub membership levels below the number required to give next season’s budget the necessary boost it requires.
"I’m not thinking about anything else at the moment, apart from preparing for the Tamworth game," added Daish.
"I went to watch them at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday and we will prepare for the game in the same way we always do."
