A taxi driver sprayed in the eye and attacked by two men has helped create a computer-generated image of a man police would like to speak to.
The victim, a man in his 60s, was parked in a petrol station on Milton Road when he accepted a fare to Denton on October 18.
When they got to Shamrock Road, the taxi driver was asked to stop.
It was then that he was threatened with what has been described as a sharp object by one of the men sitting in the front passenger seat.
The offender said: "Give me your money."
The driver turned to look at the man in the back and was then sprayed with something in the eye.
The victim ran out of the car and began knocking on several doors in Shamrock Road, asking for help.
After carrying out a search of the car, the two men approached the victim again and began kicking and punching him.
The taxi driver threw his mobile phone on the floor and the two men picked it up and fled in the direction of Dickens Road.
Police were then called at 12.30am.
One of the offenders has been described as a white man, aged between 20 and 25, about 5ft 6ins, of slim build with short dark hair and spoke with an accent.
He was also wearing a blue top with a hood.
The second suspect was also described as a white man, of the same height and also wearing a blue hooded top.
An e-fit has been produced of the first offender and officers are urging anyone with information to contact them.
Detective Constable Kieron Watts said: "The victim was left in some considerable pain after being subjected to a random attack by two men, who not only kicked and punched the driver but also sprayed something in his eye.
"Understandably, he was left shaken up by the incident and is not able to drive as a result of the pain. We’re keen to speak with anyone who might recognise the person in the image, or might have information that proves helpful in bringing those responsible to justice."
If anyone has any information, call DC Watts on 01474 366088 quoting reference XY/33295/13.
