A potential rush-hour disaster was narrowly avoided after an elderly man was spotted driving the wrong way down the A2 at Gravesend.

The car was travelling in the opposite direction along the coastbound stretch of the road near the Tollgate junction in Gravesend at about 6.15pm on Tuesday night.

Overhead gantry signs warned motorists to slow down to 20mph due to an oncoming vehicle.

Police were unable to trace the driver.
