A man has been bailed after an elderly woman died when she was hit by a car in Northfleet.
Police confirmed the 88-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on London Road, Northfleet, which happened just before 11.50am yesterday.
She was hit by a blue Audi A6 between Rosherville Primary School and Our Lady of Assumption church.
The driver of the car – a 27-year-old man from Northfleet – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured.
He has been bailed until Monday, August 22, to allow inquiries to continue.
Officers from Kent Police’s serious collision investigation unit are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, or anyone who saw the victim walking with the aid of a stick in the moments leading up to the incident.
They would also like to hear from the drivers of a grey Citroen Berlingo van or similar model, and a small red Vauxhall car, who may be able to provide important information to aid their investigation.
Emergency services including Kent's air ambulance were scrambled to the scene. It is believed the air ambulance landed in a nearby park.
Police said the woman's next of kin have been informed.
London Road has a 40mph limit, but one resident living on the road said he often saw cars trying to overtake. In recent weeks a bus stop and a wall had been hit by cars, he said.
