A swish new car, an exotic five-star getaway and enough cheese to feed Wallace and Gromit for weeks. Do prize hauls get any better?
Ellie Crewe, 23, was the lucky recipient of all that and more after a memorable appearance on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
Impressive knowledge of Peter Rabbit, EastEnders and the Wetherspoon’s menu saw her hit the jackpot in the show’s finale, Win The Ads, which also served up a new kitchen, heating system, a haul of toothpaste, and more.
For Ellie, who lives in Northfleet and works at the local police station, the experience is still sinking in.
She said: “I never expected to get picked, I was just hoping to go to a recording of the show.
“I really could not believe it, I was just happy to be in the audience seeing Jess Glynne perform, and I love Ant and Dec.”
Boyfriend Ian Saunders joined Ellie in the audience after successfully applying for tickets.
She was then picked to take part in the weekly quiz, which sees contestants win prizes for each question they answer correctly.
However, they are not made aware of what they have won and are given the chance to gamble their winnings with one final question to take home the jackpot – all the prizes.
“They took me backstage after and I still could not believe what had happened, I was just in my own little world.” Ellie Crewe.
Ellie said: “I said to Ian that I came with nothing and that if I left with nothing it would not matter, so I always had the intention of gambling.
“When they showed me what I had won I just thought, ‘what have I done?!’ I had the holiday and the car and could have lost it all.
“I am not actually that clever normally, the last answer was a complete guess.
“They took me backstage after and I still could not believe what had happened, I was just in my own little world.”
The collection of prizes has started to trickle in since her win a few weeks ago, and the luxury trip to the Algarve has been especially well received.
Ellie is not so crackers about the cheese, though.
She said: “We were not going to have a holiday abroad this year, so I am really looking forward to that.
“I have absolutely no idea about the cheese. I do not even like blue cheese, but I have about 10 or 15 people asking for it.”
