A FORMER mayor of Gravesham has had a brush with the law for the second time.

Frank Gibson, 82, of Windmill Street, Gravesend pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Medway Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

In October 2006, during an argument with a driving instructor parked on yellow lines outside his house, the former mayor daubed paint on the man's car.

The chairman of the bench, David Eather, said Mr Gibson's actions had been "totally unacceptable" and ordered him to pay £23.50 in compensation and £100 in court costs.

Mr Gibson, who is also a former Kent county councillor, was also given a conditional discharge.

In January this year Mr Gibson was found guilty of assaulting two police officers after they stopped him in his car on Christmas Eve 2006.

At that hearing Mr Gibson was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £910 in costs.

Speaking outside the court, Mr Gibson said: "It was a very fair hearing. It was an unwise thing to have done."
