The oldest member of a Kent Baptist Church has died peacefully, aged 100.

Former teacher Marjorie Pryce was a much-loved member of the he Emmanuel Baptist Church in Windmill Street, and scores of people are expected at her funeral on Friday.

Miss Pryce, who was the eldest of three children, was born in 1908 in Mafeking, South Africa.

After teaching in many London schools she came to Gravesend and taught at Milton Road School, Whitehill School and Wombell Hall School, Northfleet.

Jean Tomlin, who was a close friend of Miss Pryce for about 20 years, said: "Her speciality was maths but she was an all-rounder. A very quiet studious person with a sense of humour."

Miss Pryce passed away at St Peters Nursing Home, Council Avenue, Northfleet on Friday, April 11.

Tomorrow’s service will take place at 2pm followed by a cremation at 3pm at Medway Crematorium.
