A MAN who viciously attacked a teacher in front of a class of children was jailed for two years on Friday.
Alfred Scott had been warned by a judge in July last year, when found guilty of assaulting teacher Tom Neave causing him actual bodily harm, that prison was inevitable if there was no psychiatric disposal.
Sentence was adjourned because Scott, 40, was facing a second trial, involving a frenzied attack on police. It ended on Wednesday with him being convicted of affray and assaulting a PC causing him actual bodily harm.
Maidstone Crown Court heard how Scott stormed into his son's class at Thamesview School in Gravesend on May 29, 2002 and headbutted, punched and bit Mr Neave. Scott reacted violently after his son went home early complaining he had been bullied and spat at by the teacher.
The father denied assault but admitted he had gone to the school to "humiliate and degrade" Mr Neave, then aged 31 and from Rochester, who was teaching maths to pupils aged 11 and 12.
Mr Neave said Scott's son had been disruptive. He took him out of the room so as not to humiliate him in front of other children, he added.
Scott, of Barset Road, Nunhead, south east London, said of the teacher: "The way he treated my son was disgusting. He frightened the life out of him."
In the latest case, the jury heard about Scott's "somewhat extraordinary behaviour" after PC Daniel Smith and WPC Leanne Pearce were called to a domestic incident in Havengore Avenue, Gravesend, on May 14 last year.
They saw the 40-year-old father wielding a 3ft long metal bar. He shouted at the officers: "Come on then, I'll kill you both."
During a struggle Scott headbutted PC Smith and spat in his face. WPC Pearce struck Scott twice with her baton but he was only restrained after around seven more officers arrived and emergency restraint belts were put on him. PC Smith was taken to Darent Valley Hospital where he was treated for head injuries.
Grahame James, defending, said a psychiatric assessment had been carried out on Scott, who has suffered from depression for several years, and he intended to get further medical assistance.
Judge Anthony Balston jailed Scott for 18 months for the assault on the teacher and six months consecutive for the other incident.
